How To Delete Hidden Apps From Your iPhone

With the release of iOS 14, Apple has made it easy to hide apps you haven’t used in a while. It was great for the organization but the apps were a little hard to rediscover. This tutorial shows you how to quickly delete “hidden apps” on your iPhone (or your iPad).

Why are apps hidden?

For many iPhone users, too many apps on the home screen and too many folders full of apps become a nuisance over time. With iOS 14, Apple has fixed it with the introduction of the App Library, which collects all your apps and places them in various “smart” categories to the right of your final home screen.

By doing so, Apple has cleared your home screen and “hidden” less-used apps, bypassing them. Of course, there are other reasons why apps may not show up on your device’s home screen. For example, you might have:

  • The “Add to Home Screen” option has been disabled for newly downloaded applications under “Settings -> Home Screen”.

  • Using the “Remove from Home Screen” context menu option removes an application at some point and simply forgets about it.

  • Some inactive local applications through “Settings -> Screen Time -> Content and Privacy Limits -> Permitted Applications”.

With the release of iOS 14, Apple made it easy to hide apps you haven’t used in a while. It’s great for organization but also made finding the apps again a little more difficult. This tutorial shows you how to quickly delete “hidden apps” on your iPhone (or your iPad).

The fastest way to not only see every app installed on your iPhone – but also delete the theme is to do it from the settings menu.

Go to “Settings -> General -> iPhone Store”. Note that it may take a few seconds for all your applications to load and display.

Find the application you want to remove and tap on it.

Inside the next screen, the last option is the “Delete app” which will erase all the data from your iPhone and preface a note saying that this action is irreversible.

As soon as the application is deleted, it will disappear completely from your home screen and your application library.

Delete Hidden Apps Using Spotlight

If you’re liked me, Spotlight apps in iOS have taken over all the need to have pages and pages. As easy as finding apps this way is, deleting apps is also simple.

Swipe down on any home screen and start typing in the application name.

When you see the app icon appear below the search bar for Spotlight, long press the app icon until a pop-up menu appears.

Different apps have different options, but they all have “Delete app” at the bottom of the popup menu. The second popup app confirms that you want to delete the app. Tap on “Delete” again, then the hidden app will turn out fine

If you do not find the app you are looking for in Spotlight, you may have disabled its visibility from “Settings -> App_Name -> Siri and Search”. (See the “Show application in search” toggle switch.)

Delete Hidden Apps from the App Store

This method works, and it has one big caveat: the only way to delete it is when an app has been updated or has recently been updated.

As in the step above, open the App Store app and tap on your profile picture. Scroll down until you see the app you are looking for under “Upcoming Automatic Updates,” “Available Updates” or “Recently Updated”.

Swipe left on the app, and the “Delete” option appears to the right of the app name and toggle the update.

Once deleted, the app will be completely removed from your iPhone or iPad.

Delete Hidden Apps from the App Library

The app library is one of the most notable iOS 14 additions and for better or worse, Apple has made it clear that it stays here. It’s a new way to organize your applications. If you do not find an application on the home screen, in a folder, etc., it will be one of the automatically sorted categories in the application library.

To delete apps in the “Application Library”, swipe left from your home screen until you are taken to the Application Library screen.

Tap on the search field at the top and enter the app name.

Click on the app icon, then tap on “Delete app”. (You can press the app icon on the first screen for a long time to reveal the same option.) If you do not click on the app icon or it’s on the right side of the app instead, you will bring the app home instead. Screen.

Tap on “Delete” again to confirm, and the app will turn around for good.

Why can’t I delete some apps that are still visible?

You may be dealing with one of Apple’s default apps here. You are not allowed to delete some of them. Native apps like Safari, Photos, App Store, Clock, and more cannot be removed from any iOS device. On the other hand, apps like FaceTime, Mail, Camera and Calculator can be removed from the App Store and re-downloaded in the future. In the case of third-party applications, they can all be deleted.
