The timing of this backend addition is quite interesting, as the iOS 18.2 beta won’t be released until the end of October at the earliest. Apple expects to release iOS 18.1 to the public on October 28, and the next beta is usually released a few days later.

The company will do the same thing they did with iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1, opting to run two beta tracks simultaneously. It’s unlikely, but it could be the reason these background references suddenly appeared today.

All we can say for sure is that iOS 18.1 RC is very close and will probably be released to testers later this week. One way or another, we shouldn’t be too far from our first iOS 18.2 beta.

iOS 18.2 is expected to be released to the public in December. Other Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji and Image Playground are expected to be part of iOS 18.2.

iOS 18.2: Apple Intelligence features are coming

Apple made a lot of promises for iOS 18, but a good chunk of them are missing from the current betas of both iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1. Since most of the promised features are coming “later this year,” we should expect them in iOS 18.2 — assuming no delays.

For the past few years, iOS x.2 updates have been released in December. Any features not present in iOS 18 and 18.1 will appear in this version, which will be the last to be released in 2024. Of course, there’s always a chance Apple might add some major feature. A later beta is 18.1, but that usually doesn’t happen.
